Strengthening and Empowering the Lives  of  Females Inc.

SELF Inc. is a nonprofit organization that provides a cultural rite of passage program which encourages adolescent girls of color in NYC, to embark on a journey of self-discovery and sisterhood. Our holistic program gives young girls an opportunity to explore their purpose, talents, beliefs and goals so they can reclaim their “truth” and break hold from limitations and labels that are created by society.

All girls of color in NYC will have the self-confidence to reach their full potential in life.

About SELF

SELF Inc is guided by the seven principles of Kwanzaa (nguzo saba): unity (umoja), self-determination (kujichagulia), collective work and responsibility (ujima), cooperative economics (ujamaa), purpose (nia), creativity (kuumba), and faith (imani).

We strive to develop the utmost respect and confidence amongst our girls. As a SELF girl, you will value: the importance of self-worth, uplifting and empowering others, always remaining positive, building healthyrelationships, and knowing you are beautiful beyond any measure.

The feather in the SELF logo represents the Egyptian goddess Ma’at. She stands for truth, balance, order, harmony, law, morality, and justice. She wears an orchard feather on her head which represents truth and wisdom

The feather symbolizes true beauty and wisdom that the girls will  discover within themselves that allows them to be set freementally, physically and spiritually, which is represented by the feather turning into birds flying free into the world.

The color pink is the color of
universal love of oneself and of others. Pink represents friendship, affection, harmony, inner peace, and approachability.
